Guy Babusek has trained
with April Thronson, Helen McComas,
Dennis Parnell, Susan Skadron, Andy
Boettner, Dave Stroud, Michael
Goodrich, Florence Riggs and was a
pupil of Seth Riggs from 1997 to 2013.
Guy's performance experience includes
opera, oratorio, recital, cabaret,
pop, rock and musical theater. As a
composer and songwriter, Guy has
written over 50 songs, composed music
for 10 ballets, several modern dance
projects and arranged backing vocals
and numerous choral pieces for
productions and recording projects. He
is in constant demand as a private
voice teacher as well as in recording
studios as a vocal producer, coach and
consultant.
Guy began studying
classical piano at the age of 8, began
performing as an actor at the age of
12 and began training as a singer at
the age of 15. Guy performed in both
musical and non-musical theater on
stages throughout Southern California
up to his college years. As an
undergraduate at Cal State Fullerton,
Guy majored in music composition. It
was during this period that he began
training as both a counter tenor and
baritone and performed in early music
and baroque festivals throughout
California. After college, Guy met
Seth Riggs who introduced him to the
concept of the ?mixed voice? and who
began training his legitimate tenor
voice. It was during this period that
Guy also began performing and touring
in a variety of non-classical musical
genres, including traditional Celtic
music, pop and melodic rock.
In 1998, having already enjoyed a
performing career spanning over 20
years, Guy made the discovery that his
true passion is teaching vocal
technique. He began the process of
training to become a
Speech-Level-Singing (SLS) instructor
and was certified in January of 1999.
In the summer of 2012, in his 13th
year of being certified to teach the
SLS technique, Guy was invited to join
the then seven-member Master Teachers
group (MT). As a member of the MT, Guy
was authorized to both develop and
evaluate certified SLS instructors,
and guide those individuals looking to
become certified to teach the SLS
technique.
Guy resigned from SLS in 2013 and is
a founding director of The Institute
for Vocal Advancement (IVA), an
organization that trains voice
teachers in foundational vocal
technique throughout the world.
His vocal studio in Orange County
includes singers of opera, lieder,
oratorio, popular music, musical
theater, R&B, jazz, country, folk
and rock music. Since Guy specializes
in vocal technique, rather than style
coaching, singers of all styles of
music benefit from his instruction.
Guy has been a member in
good standing of the National
Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS)
since 2009.
